Notes

• Other possible places of her birth have been recorded in these Illinois census records: 1850 (New Jersey), 1860 (New York), and 1880 (Massachusetts, which indicates her parents were born in Connecticut) and New Hampshire (1900 census). In the 1900 census, Maria's daughter, Frances, was the census taker, and hopefully Maria's birth state of New Hampshire can be assumed to be correct. This census also states both her parents were born in New Hampshire and she had 9 children, 4 living. In the 1880 census for her son Charles, he states both parents born NY. In 1880 censu her daughter Mary Smith says she was born in NH. The 1910 census entry on her son,Charles P., notes she was born in Massachusetts.
• Her name is listed as "Helen Hudson" on the marriage license of her daughter, Lucy M. and Ebenezer Lass.
• Her sister was Elizabeth Hudson (wife of Henry Ferris). "Knox Directory 1837-1963" Published in 1963 by Knox College Galesburg, Illinois, page 458 lists children of Harvey and Maria and states that Mrs. Jerauld was a sister of Mrs. Henry Ferris.
• Elizabeth named a daughter Maria. The two sister were 2 years apart in age. Married 4 years apart in same county. The two families are buried in the same cemetery. Both families were in the 1850 census for Galesburg, Knox Co.,Illinois. Need to check the Congregational Church for more records of this association.
• Elizabeth Hudson was the first of the Hudson's to move to Galesburg. She arrived June 2 1836 and married Henry Ferris on Aug 31, 1836 (first marriage in the new colony). Elizabeth traveled with the Nehemiah West family as a teacher for their children.
• I believe that Maria and her parents came to Galesburg within a few years as Maria and Henry were married in 1840.
• Another possible sister is Adaline Hudson who married Martin D Lambert on July 31 1847 (From Illinois Statewide Marriages Index 1763-1900-Vol 1,page 85). But LDS shows Adaline Hudson born abt 1830 married to Martin Lambert. Census says she was born OH. She is not another daughter.
