John(1), as this William's father. Email from Joanne Lahr-Kreischer to the Whipple Web Site on 19 Sep 1997 and 10 Feb 1999, however, persuaded the webmaster to list this William as a son of William(2), son of Captain John(1):

Charles M. Whipple's "Captain John Whipple's Two Grandsons Named William Whipple: A Reply," dated 1 Nov 2002 (see https://whipple.one-name.net/twowilliams/charles.html), resulted in a reversal of that decision. The current database lists this William as the son of David and Hannah (Tower) Whipple.
