"Other descendants of Bela Chase show her as Orilla/Aurilla Whipple Miller, or Orilla/Aurilla Whipple, Aurilla Whipple. I think the various spellings of Orilla/Aurilla are understandable given the varying degrees of how well people could read or write in those days and the interpretation of various people recording. Even in Palmyra land records I saw two records for Orilla Whipple and one for Aurilla Whipple all for land sold to Orilla Whipple's maternal relations (Smith). The Miller name is another story. I personally think that Orilla might already have been a widow of a man named Miller when Bela married her as the name must have come from somewhere. People died early from various causes then more than they do now. I personally believed that the spelling of her first name was Orilla and not Aurilla because my g-g-grandmothers middle initial was O (Lydia O. Chase) and it would have been logical for her middle name to have been her mother's name. Lydia was Bela's mother's name.Bonnie further states that another researcher "has a copy of a certificate showing Edgar as son of Bela Chase & Minerva Shute (b. Abt. 1847 - which now I realize means Orilla died before 1847 - probably 1845 or 1846).""Then there is the Palmyra thing. I started looking for Orilla Whipples in Ontario County NY because some descendants show that Bela & Orilla were married in Palmyra, Ontario County, NY. Bela's mother died in Farmington, Ontario Co., NY. Then this below is from a Chase family history (Abel Chase Jr. was Bela's father and Bela & most siblings were born in New Hampshire):
The only exceptions were Abel Chase Jr., and his younger children who emigrated to Palmyra, N.Y., and afterwards drifted into Michigan."That is how I came to look at Whipples in Palmyra, and discover Orilla Whipple, daughter of Calvin Whipple, in Palmyra , NY. I noticed that Bela's first son, Arnold, was born in Macedon, NY. One of Orilla Whipple's siblings was born in Macedon, NY. Then I started poking around in census' for Oakland County Michigan hoping to find some record of Orilla Chase (turns out wives names weren't recorded that early-1830) but it did show her father Israel Whipple and one son on the census, and there are tons of marriage and birth records for Israel Whipple descendants in Oakland County - I believe I even sent you death record for her brother. This I think was extraordinary coincidence - too much coincidence not to be correct. Bela Chase marries an Aurilla/Orilla Whipple or Whipple Miller, and moves from Palmyra, NY to Oakland County, MI, and the father and brothers of Orilla Whipple (daughter of Calvin) move from Palmyra to Oakland County. In short it was enough coincidence to convince me and I'm a believer, but I don't know if it is enough for you?
By the way, Orilla Whipple had brothers named Arnold and William
Bela & Orilla Chase had sons Arnold and William
Bela did not have brothers named Arnold and William."
