"This is what it says on Bela Chase:
On July 5, 1851 Bela Chase purchased 40 acres of land north of 7 mile in section 16 of Alpine. In fall, Bela's two sons, Abel and David, and one Charles Waterman made their way to Michigan. Bela's acres were presented to Abel Chase on Oct. 25, 1853. After locating his land and joining his companions in erecting shelters, Able took the time to write a letter to his wife describing his experiences. In a day when few people could write, Abel appeared to have little difficulty communicating his thoughts to his wife. <>the personal letter follows>"Nov. 30, 1851Dear Wife and Frend,

!SOURCE: Email from Bonnie (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 21 Jun 2003. Bonnie writes: "Based on your info I was able to find a David Chase in the 1870 Census living in Grand Haven. He was listed as 38 which means he was born about 1832. That would fit him between Abel and William, if this David is a relative. Grand Haven is in Ottawa Co. Arnold...lived in Chester Twp, Ottawa Co at the same time."
