!SOURCE: Email from Bonnie (email hidden) to the Whipple Website, 17 Jun 2003. Bonnie writes: "I think I have a new child for Orilla Whipple & Bela Chase. The following is from 150 years of Alpine Township History. I can't be positive because I don't know how old David (mentioned below) was at the time and Bela had later wives after Orilla died. (Abel of course was Orilla's). I'll let you know if I can find out.

"This is what it says on Bela Chase:

On July 5, 1851 Bela Chase purchased 40 acres of land north of 7 mile in section 16 of Alpine. In fall, Bela's two sons, Abel and David, and one Charles Waterman made their way to Michigan. Bela's acres were presented to Abel Chase on Oct. 25, 1853. After locating his land and joining his companions in erecting shelters, Able took the time to write a letter to his wife describing his experiences. In a day when few people could write, Abel appeared to have little difficulty communicating his thoughts to his wife. <>the personal letter follows>"

He was listed as 38 which means he was born about 1832. That would fit him between Abel and William, if this David is a relative. Grand Haven is in Ottawa Co. Arnold...lived in Chester Twp, Ottawa Co at the same time."
