!IDENTITY: This is probably the Olney Whipple of North Providence who on 28 May 1835 purchased some manufacture property in Sutton, Massachusetts (as is noted near the bottom of page 548 of History of the town of Sutton, Massachusetts, Part IV Manufactures). See email from Jeffrey Congdon (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 28 Mar 2010. According to the source cited, "It was about the beginning of the year 1826 that a number of gentlemen from Providence, Rhode Island, on their way to Worcester and Boston, conceived the idea of utilizing ... [the north branch of the Mumford River, a tributary of the Blackstone, in/near the village of Manchang in Sutton] for the purpose of manufacturing.
