I am removing the title of Deacon for Matthew(1590-1647). The earliest mention of Matthew with the title of Deacon which I can find is in "Matthew Whipple of Bocking, England and Descendents" by Henry Burdette Whipple in 1965. On pg. 15 he states that Matthew was a Deacon while John rose to the higher position of Ruling Elder etc. On pg. 18 he suggests that one refer to Water's "The John Whipple House in Ipswich, Mass & the People Who have owned and lived in it". I found no mention of Deacon Matthew there. On pg. 19 he states "A sincere churchman, he was for years a deacon of the Congregational Church."Matthew was only here for nine years, hardly "many". There was a Deacon Matthew but in the years (1685-1764) [after the death of this Matthew Whipple].
