!SOURCE: Email from Don Maxwell (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 3 Mar 2003. Cites the 1850 Michigan, Macomb County, Sterling Twp census, p. 332. On 18 Mar 2003, Don, writes further, "In the NY St Lawrence Co Madrid Twp 1830 census there is a Jonathan Whipple, male between 20 and 30, 1 female between 20 and 30 and only 1 male under 5. This could very well be Jonathan & Lucinda as in his 1861 letter to Lucinda, her uncle Coonrad who lived in Waddington St Lawrence Co, wrote 'the place has improved a gradele you would hardley now it the place whare you yous to live.' Proof that Lucinda did live there and the marriage to Jonathan might well have been held there. Coonrad went on to ask 'how you are geting along and if Levi and Jane is maried.' No mention of Leander Linden. So it is possible that only Levi was born before the 1830 census was recorded. as the 1 male under 5."

To close the gap between the 1830 & 1850 census I went to both MI & NY looking for Jonathan Whipple. I found him in 1840 in NY Franklin Co., Chateaugay Twp. At least I'm satisfied that it's J & Lucinda & family. The Kentners went from ON to NY about 1800 and in 1810 were in Chateaugay Twp. Johnathan Whipple has 1 male 10 to 15, 1 male 30 to 40 (himself), 2 females under 5, 2 females 5 to 10 and 1 female 30 to 40 (Lucinda)Again it looks like Levi, b 1826 is the only son listed. The 4 girls fit nicely as Jane, Elizabeth, Phebe & Matilda Mary. all born before 1840.
