Notes

!RESIDENCES: In 1845, moved his family to Franklin, Johnson, Indiana; in 1853, moved to Marion, Linn, Iowa; in Feb 1865, set out for Denver, Colo., but wagon was attacked by Indians, so were able to make it to Cheyenne, Laramie County, Wyoming, where he settled.

!CHURCH: Active member of the Baptist Church.

!OCCUPATION: Opened his own grocery and provision store in Cheyenne, which flourished, in spite of the fact that he refused to sell liquor. After it burned down, he was able to recoup his losses. He later owned and operated stock ranches, and was vice-president and a director of the Stock Growers National Bank in Cheyenne.

!GOVERNMENT: Councilman in Wyoming's 3rd Territorial Legislature in 1873; elected to the City Council and acted as mayor of Cheyenne in 1873 and 1874. He received a commission from President U.S. Grant to the office of Receiver and Disbursing Agent for the Cheyenne Land Office, December 1875.
