• History of Allegany County, NY, pg 271: G. Whipple, dentist, b New Hudson 1848 came from that place to Cuba 1872 , married the year prior to Lucy Ann Peters of Rushford. He commenced practice in Ridgeway PA 1869. His father was Benjamin who came to New Hudson at an early date. His mother's maiden name was Marsh and she was a native of VT. ... Among those who came in 1828 (New Hudson) was Benjamin Whipple, a native of Cayuga county who settled on lot number 31. Orlin Marsh came from Vermont in 1831.
• Acording to Allegany NY GenWeb, from the Diary of Spencer D. Lyon, an early settler of New Hudson, NY, entry for June 30, 1902, he attended the wedding of Mabel Lyon and Gardner Whipple. On Dec 28, 1893 the diary notes that Dallas Whipple's barn burned killing seven horses and a colt.
• Obit Rochester, Monroe, NY, Democrat and Chronicle, May 19, 1903 (note the age is off, Gardner is 52 in the 1880 census): Dr Gardner Whipple of Cuba, one of the best known men in Alleghany County and a dentist of thirty years practice, died at 2:00 pm yesterday morning of pneumonia, aged 50 years. He is survived by his wife and two children, one son Harry and one daughter Mrs. Morgan of Cuba. Dallas Whipple, the well known oil magnate, is a brother.
