!PARENTS: It is unclear whether George/Gerge is the son of Jonathan and Lucinda (Kentner) Whipple or of (Jonathan's son) Levi W. and Irena "Lois" (S[t]urgess) Whipple. In the absence of evidence either way, he here appears as the son of Levi and Irena.

Irena's child with Levi was Gerge/George Whipple born about 1851. I have not been able to find George on any census record other than the 1860 Census in Sterling Heights, Macomb County, Michigan. I have found no death record in Oakland or Tuscola County or any other of the surrounding counties, the same with cemetery records. BUT I did find a George Whipple that died at Andersonville Prison during the Civil War. He was captured at Gettysburg. I know he seems a little bit young, but his father, Levi served in the Civil War AND his Aunt Matilda's husband, Nelson Sylvester served in Gettysburg under General Custer. I think George stayed living with his grandfather, Jonathan until he enlisted. George would have grown up with his Aunt Matilda and he probably would have known Nelson very well.

Although Nelson Sylvester enlisted Dec 15, 1863 and George enlisted May 15, 1861. Both were in Company A but Nelson was in the Calvery unit and George was in the 4th regiment in the infantry.
