Sarah Hopkins Hawes (1812-1860) ... married George Jenckes Harris. On their tombstone in Swan Point Cemetery is inscribed: Sarah Hopkins Hawes, daughter of General Joseph Hawes and Sarah Hopkins, granddaughter of Samuel, son of Admiral Esek Hopkins.Your website has Samuel, son of Esek, born 1748, dying 1750 so clearly he could not have fathered a child. Is it possibe Esek had a second son named Samuel?
!SOURCE: Email from Julia Mignacca (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 26 Apr 2006. Cites additional information in an unpublished genealogy by M.A. Benns, written in 1942, available in the Rhode Island Historical Society Library, 121 Hope Street, Providence, RI. According to that source and Julia:
We have an unpublished genealogy by M.A. Benns, written in 1942. According to this, there was a tenth child Samuel that died in Dec 1782 and was married 10 Aug 1781 to Zerviah Charlotte Lindsay, daughter of Thos. and Sarah (Field) Lindsey. She died in 1848. There are no citations for the information, but it looks like it might be based on a marriage record.
