States that this Eleazer "was the first of this name that settled at Warwick, R.I.; he was born in England. At what time he came to this country is not known. He owned a large track [sic] of land a little south of Pawtuxet village, in Warwick, R.I. His house where he lived is standing at this date (1871). At this place he resided, when at home with his family, but as he was a sea-captain, was away a good part of the time. He was also engaged in the mercantile business. He died at sea about 1761. He married a Miss Rhodes of Pawtuxet."

!SOURCE: Email from N. Combs to Weldon Whipple, 11 Feb 2003. Speculating on the origins of Eleazer (after having differentiated him from his contemporary at RIN 6107), Norma writes:
As for the Eleazer Whipple who married Deliverance Rhodes in Warwick, RI in 1744--he was not listed as "junior" in the town records. Note that he and Deliverance name their first son James Whipple. And who did Deliverance Rhode's uncle John Rhodes marry as his second wife? Per J. O. Austin, p. 222, "the widow of James Whipple," (supposed son of Eleazer and Alice Angell Whipple). Wouldn't it fit for this Eleazer to have been the son of James [RIN 6112] and Mary (Williams) Whipple? The old naming convention called for naming a son after an older brother, and James could have been younger than Eleazer Whiple, Jr. [RIN 6107]. Eleazer and Deliverance have two daughters named Mary, the name of both James Whipple's wife and Deliverance's mother. Another daughter is named Alice--possibly for Alice (Angell) Whipple, her great-grandmother in this scenario. A birthdate of the early 1720s for this Eleazer Whipple would make him a robust 35-40 years old, fit to be "a sea captain, also engaged in mercantile business" who was lost at sea in 1760-1761 per Descendants of Roger Williams, Book I. Deliverance was born after January 23, 1723/24, the date of her parents' marriage."

Regarding Eleazer's parents, Barbara writes: "As to the identity of Eleazer, the 'Genealogy of Zachariah Rhodes' states that Deliverance Rhodes was married 24th June, 1744, to Eleazer Whipple, of Warwick and Smithfield, Rhode Island, (James-Eleazer-John) who d. in November, 1760. The first Eleazer did have a son, ensign James, c. 1686/87, who is buried with him in the Whipple-Mowry Lot in Lincoln. Date of death, according to the RI Historical Cemeteries database, is 3 Oct 1731. The Whipple Website has Ensign James married to Mary Williams. There are no children listed. Mary Williams married for a second time to John Rhodes. They had a son, named James, in 1734. Since Ensign James, her first husband, died in 1731, the timing of this second marriage and the birth of James is right. The source that Nelson Osgood Rhoades for the Eleazer-James-Eleazer-John descendancy is Austin's Ancestral Dictionary. I will locate the exact place in Austin and get the citation."
