!SOURCE: Email from Barbara Carroll to Weldon Whipple, 15 Feb 2003. Regarding Eleazer's parents, Barbara writes: "As to the identity of Eleazer [James' son], the 'Genealogy of Zachariah Rhodes' states that Deliverance Rhodes was married 24th June, 1744, to Eleazer Whipple, of Warwick and Smithfield, Rhode Island, (James-Eleazer-John) who d. in November, 1760. The first Eleazer did have a son, ensign James, c. 1686/87, who is buried with him in the Whipple-Mowry Lot in Lincoln. Date of death, according to the RI Historical Cemeteries database, is 3 Oct 1731. whipple.org has Ensign James married to Mary Williams. There are no children listed. Mary Williams married for a second time to John Rhodes. They had a son, named James, in 1734. Since Ensign James, her first husband, died in 1731, the timing of this second marriage and the birth of James is right. The source that Nelson Osgood Rhoades for the Eleazer-James-Eleazer-John descendancy is Austin's Ancestral Dictionary. I will locate the exact place in Austin and get the citation."
