!BIOGRAPHY: Member of the R.I. General Assembly for many years; member of the Corporation of Brown University; member of the Committee of War during the American Revolution. Signed the Rhode Island Declaration of Independence as a member of the legislature in Providence, 4 Jay 1776. First president of St. John's Episcopal Church, Providence. When he moved from Providence to Johnston, John operated a farm in the present-day Hughesdale area; after his death, it required 3 days to auction he personal property in Johnston. --C.W. Farnham
