I have Virgil as son of Jabez E. Whipple I10224 and Abigaill Hammond but do not have an actual record for proof.Y I do have enough circumstantial evidence to convince me of his lineage as follows:
- The obit for Virgil indicates he was born in New Salem, Franklin County, Massachusetts (this is where Jabez was living in the census and where his daughter Augusta was born; additionally, it is where Jabez and his second wife areY buried).
- The names of Virgil's children mirror those of others in this line - Welcome - Virgil - Augusta - JabezY - Homer (middle name Ellis which would have been the maiden name of Virgil'sY grandmother).
- The census indicates Virgil was born in Massachusetts and his obit indicates he came to McHenry County from Massachusetts in 1844.

Virgil H. Whipple born Mar 10, 1810 inY New Salem, Franklin,Y Massachusetts, and married Jane DurantYYonYYMarch 14, 1848 in Illinois.Y Jane was b abt 1832 in Indiana, daughter of Cornelius Durant of Massachusetts.Virgil and Jane appear in the census 1850-1880 in Dunhan, McHenry, Illinois which is where he died in 1892.Y Y He was a prosperous farmer and according to his obit had 9 children, 4 of whom were living when he died. Virgil and Jane are buried in the Jerome Cemetery in Harvard, McHenry Illinois which was a few miles from his homestead in Dunham.Y Jane died Jan 9, 1883.
