After Adelaide (1st wife) and Frances Mann (2nd wife), [William] had a 3rd wife Elsie Catherine Keller. He fathered one more child at the age of 67. Her name was Gertrude Marie Whipple (My father's mother) born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1911. William had a barbershop in St. Paul, MN and didn't die until September 8th 1920 in Hennepin County Minnesota (CertID#1920-MN-021822). Gertrude was only around 9 years old when her father, William Whipple, died. Elsie contested Frances as the widow of William O.S. Whipple, which is listed in the civil war veterans pension files. Elsie then married her 2nd husband Per Haleen.

William O.S. Whipple was a civil war veteran. He was a Corporal in Company F of the 25th Wisconsin Infantry. At the time of Mustering his residence was Melrose, WI. My father has his civil war service medal.

For some time we wondered what his middle name(s) were, but I am fairly sure that it just stands for Ordinary Seaman (O.S.). So "O.S." or even "O." as middle initials may actually not be correct.
