[Thomas] is my 6th greatgrandfather on my mother's side. His first wife, as listed, was Lydia Gates with whom he had children. He married three times and is buried with his third wife in Michigan. He came from Connecticut, was a preacher, and lived in MA, VT, NY, NH and MI.The date of death you have does not correspond with the date on his tombstone nor other writings I have. This Thomas died in Michigan, along with his 3rd wife, from an epidemic in 1833 while visiting his son Walter who had removed from NH to MI some years earlier. His father's name was also Thomas, b 1739, who also died in Michigan about 1820.
Thomas, who was married to Lydia Gates, had, among other children, a son Thomas who was a physician in VT and NH. This Thomas was a member of Congress and died in 1835 and is buried in Wentworth, NH where he made his home in what is now known as the Whipple House on the Commons. He had several children, one of whom was Col. Thomas Jefferson Whipple, a lawyer who made his home in NH and who served in the Mexican and Civil Wars. Col. Thomas died 1899 and is buried in Laconia, NH.
I descend from Alonzo Whipple, son of Thomas and brother to Col. Thomas, Alonzo also was a physician in various town in NH and is buried in Wentworth, NH. One of Alonzo's sons, also named Thomas, lived in Massachusetts, another (daughter) lived in Laconia, NH and the rest of his children all removed to Iowa.
... I have pension papers, photos of the gravestone as well as names/dates/etc of descendants of this line.

!SOURCE: Biographical Record of Lenawee County, Michigan (Whitney & Bonner, 1879). Entry for son Walter Whipple:
Walter Whipple was born February 28th, 1792, in Hinsdale, New Hampshire. His father, Thomas Whipple, was born in Connecticut, March 16th, 1752, (o.s.) and when a boy, worked on a farm. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary war. He married Lydia Gates in November, 1778, by whom he had eight children. Soon after their marriage they removed to Bethlehem, Coos county, where his mother died. After the death of his mother his father removed to Hanover, Grafton county, where he married Mrs. Woodard, a widow lady. He was a member of the Baptist church, and for a number of years preached at Hanover and surrounding villages. Here he brought up his family of children until they became of age, and were married. His second wife died at Hanover, date not known, and he afterwards married Miss Rhoda Merrell, a spinster, who lived with him until he died, in Raisin, this county.

!IDENTITY: Could this be the Thomas Whipple at 15536? (That Thomas' birth is also given as 16 Mar 1751/52; his death is given as 2 Feb 1755. Could that death date be in error? or perhaps one of the Thomases with birth given as 16 Mar 1751/52 was actually born some other day that year? --Weldon Whipple, 13 Feb 2004.)
