LAKE CITY - Urena Onetah Mills of Lake City died Sunday, June 29, 2003 at Cadillac Mercy Hospital. She was 96.She was born on Dec. 23, 1906 in Forest Township to Alfred D. and Mary (Nichols) Whipple.
She married Charles E. Mills on May 14, 1927 in Cadillac.
Mrs. Mills graduated from Manton High School and attended Lake City County Normal School. She taught at Shippy School, a one-room schoolhouse in Manton School District.
She recieved her masters in education at Central Michigan University and retired from the Lake City school system in 1969.
Mrs. Mills was past president of Lake City Rebekah and a member of the United Methodist Church and the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel.
Survivors include her children, Arno (Jeanne) Mills of Lake City and Mary (Stuart) Mahana of Manton; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Mills of Ypilanti; sister-in-law, Mable Molitor of Lake City; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, in 1984; son, Arlin C. Mills; and two brothers.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Lake City United Methodist Church with Rev. Edrye Maurer officiating. Burial will be in Lake City Cemetery.
Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Young Funeral Home in Lake City.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
