!SOURCE: Email from Beverly H (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 24 May 2020. "Susan Whipple was born May 10, 1820 in Stamford Vermont and moved to Clarksburg with her parents. She then moved to Williamstown Massachusetts where she married William Clair Walden in 1840. (I've attached a clipping from the North Adams newspaper and found a second one that gives her middle name as Whitman but I believe that is an error and was supposed to read Susan Whipple Walden). Her Massachusetts death record gives her name as Susan W. Walden, maiden name Whipple and indicates she died of bronchitis following a broken hip.
Her obituary from the Berkshire County Eagle, Pittsfield Massachusetts March 2, 1904 indicates she was the daughter of John and Sophia (Potter) Whipple and that she was a descendant of John Wanton first Governor of Rhode Island. She died as the result of being thrown from an electric car which injuries forced her to her bed for several months prior to her death.
Her death record indicates she 1904 died Feb 24, a widow and buried in West Cemetery Feb 27 1904. I did not find a West Cemetery in Williamstown. I found her grave in the Westlawn Cemetery there along with her husband born Dec 7, 1804 and who died Feb 7, 1892.
The 1900 census shows she had given birth to 9 children and 3 were then living."
