Viola M Whipple b Apr 27, 1871 is not the daughter of Knight Hill Whipple but rather the daughter of Joseph Headley Chowen and his wife Jane E Fuller who is the sister of Mrs Knight H Whipple. Viola s mother, Jane E (Fuller) Chowen died Sept 8, 1873 in Deephaven, Minn and her sister adopted her youngest child Viola M Chowen and this Viola became Viola M Whipple.

Viola was blind since birth and taught school for the blind in Calif and died at age 91. She was fully aware of her true parentage being one of 5 children. She kept in contact with the family including her father Joseph Headley Chowen d Dec 1, 1898 who is buried Groveland Cemetery, Minnetonka as is her true mother Jane (Fuller) Chowen.
