He was enumerated in the household of FC Chapman, with a daughter named Donna (born c 1852) in 1860 at Norwich. His future wife Ann was also in the household, by the name Ann Phillip(s?), a widow. He was dead by 1887 as she was listed in the Norwich directory as Ann M Whipple, widow of Samuel."

Samuel W. Whipple lived at 49 Franklin St., Norwich, Connecticut. He and Calvin G. Rawson, of 17 Union St, were grocers in business as Rawson & Whipple at 44 and 46 Waters Street, Norwich, Connecticut. (1) pages 95, 119.

There is a good chance the William Rawson, of 17 Union Street, was their bookkeeper. (2) page 95

Freeman C. Chapman, a wool and provisions dealer, and V.B. Chapman, bds., lived at 49 Franklin, Norwich, New London, Connecticut. (3) page 32

A certain William Whipple is living at 145 Franklin St., Norwich, New London, Connecticut. (page 119)
