New information about the approximate date and place of death for Joseph Oliver Whipple can be narrowed down to 1884 because of letters sent to children. Last letter was Nov 26, 1883. His second wife, Matilda who he was with over 20 yrs while he was a boatman working the Erie Canal, wrote a letter dated Oct 20th but no year stated to his brother, Charles, telling him of Joseph's drowning in Buffalo, NY. He lost his balance and fell in between the dock and his boat. She stated her folks bought a lot in Castile, NY and he was buried there. I contacted the historian in Castile and he must be in an unmarked grave. So I am assuming he died in 1884 before Oct 20th. After 1860 census, there is no record for Joseph Whipple that I know about.

Priscilla Marsh Whipple, his first wife, moved to Olean, NY but still no info on date and place of her death. They must have divorced right after 1860 census.

Joseph Oliver Whipple died Oct 15, 1884 not the 14th.Y I found the death notice in the Buffalo newspaper.Y Also Priscilla Ann Wilder (maiden name) was his wife.Y The reason why Priscilla Marsh was on the death certificateR.she must have remarried to a Marsh.Y We are still researching the Oswego and Onondaga Co in the church records to see what we can find on marriages.Y So the changes of 15th of Oct and Priscilla Annus maiden name being Wilder and not Marsh. YWill update when we find out more.Y Still no connection to Josephus parents.Y
