• " I found a Civil War record for a John Whipple of Posey Co., IN that is probably that of John C. Whipple. It shows that he enlisted on March 30, 1864 in the 10th Cavalry Regiment, Indiana, and died from wounds on Sept. 26, 1864 (The regiment fought on 25 Sep 1864 at Sulphur Trestle, AL.), leaving his wife Mary a widow--the Mary he wed in 1862."
