!SOURCE: Email from Bruce Whipple (email hidden) to the Whipple Website, 18 Aug 2003. Bruce writes: "George Whipple was born in 1792 in Norwichtown, CT. He moved to Boonton, NJ (Morris County) to work in the Iron Mill that was owned and founded by the Lathop family from Norwichtown, CT. Prior to moving to Morris County he was a blacksmith just south of the village green in Norwichtown."

During a recent visit to the George Whipple plot in Boonton, NJ, I noted that his birthdate on the tombstone was 1786.

The change in date may lead to some answers.

Some initial theories as follows:

Connection to Preserved Whipple? I was researching that line and noted that the names were almost identical to the name that George and his successors named their children.

I also noted that a John was born in the same year. Our George had a son named John S. Whipple.

!SOURCE: George appears in the 1860 census of Pequannock Twp, Morris, New Jersey (Series M653, Roll 704, p. 749) (age 68, b. CT). He is listed last in the household of Samuel C Tibbals (46, b. CT). Samuel's family includes Mary E. (33, b. CT), George W. (20, b. Morris Co., NJ), Mary E. (7, b. Morris Co., NJ), Frances S. (female, 4, b. Morris Co., NJ), and Amy C. (2, b. Morris Co., NJ).
