Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Whipple Bishop, age 82, of RR4, Meshoppen, Pa., formally of the Springville area, passed away early Monday morning, March 30, 2009 at the Golden Living Center, in Tunkhannock, Pa.She was born in Transue, Auburn Twp., Susquehanna Co., Pa. on Dec. 13, 1926, the daughter of the late Earl and Myrtle Brotzman Whipple. Mrs. Bishop was the wife of the late Donald J. Bishop, who passed away on Oct. 30, 2008.
Working at Bendix Aviation, in South Montrose, Pa., she was employed in the assembly department, for 26 years.
She was a member of the Meshoppen Chapter 70 Eastern Star. In the years past she enjoyed bowling in the Women's League on Thursday night, at the South Montrose Lanes. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Marion Canfield Sr., of Jenningsville, Pa. Also surviving are her step-daughter and her husband, Jan and Paul Brockman, of Meshoppen, Pa.; and her two step-sons, Rich and his wife Julie Bishop, of Tunkhannock, Pa., and Donnie Bishop, of Meshoppen, Pa.; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Erline Dockins, of Alto Ga.; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Secules, in 1983, a daughter-in-law, Sandra Canfield, in 1985, three brothers, Lawrence Whipple, LeRoy Whipple, and Ora Whipple; and three sisters, Nettie Canfield, Lelia Carpenter and Hazel Baldwin Stanley.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Laceyville, Pa., with Rev. Charles Bishop, of the Transue Community Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Jersey Hill Cemetery in Meshoppen, Pa. Family and friends may call from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1 at the funeral home.
