!SOURCE: Email from N. Combs to Weldon Whipple, 2 Oct 2005. Norma indicates that the various transcriptions of vital records in the NEHGS produce a conflict in Ebenezer's surname, some indicating a surname of White, others indicating a surname of Whipple:

• "The Vital Records of the Town of Newton, Massachusetts to the Year 1850 have a record of the marriage of Ebenezer White and Mindwell Fuller on May 8, 1793 in Newton, Middlesex, MA."
• "Births listed in Newton, Middlesex, MA to Ebenezer and Mindwell White are: Sarah Davis White b. Feb. 7, 1794 and bapt. May 15, 1803 (src: church record, First Congregational, Newton Centre) and William White b. June 5, 1804. Note that the baptism date for of May 15, 1803 for Sarah is the same as five of Ebenzer and Mindwell Whipple's children, including their daughter Lucinda Whipple b. Feb. 14, 1797, the same day as given for Lucinda White {84505}."
• "So, assuming that the two Mindwell Fullers--84507 [before merger with 28934] and 28934--are the same, is Ebenezer a White or a Whipple? Without looking at the original records, I can't verify whether a mistake was made in transcribing/posting records on the NEHGS site so that Whipple should really be White."
• "However, White is supported by the death record for Dea. Ebenezer White, widower, farmer, son of Joseph White, who died of old age in Newton, Middlesex, MA on March 19, 1853 age 86 yrs. 3 mos. (supporting the birth record of Dec. 1766 for Ebenezer Whipple)."
• Also, there are these deaths recorded in Newton, Middlesex, MA which support White as the surname:
  • Mindwell White, wife of Dea. Ebenezer White, d. Aug. 3, 1823 age 60 yrs.
  • Mindwell White (dau. of Ebenezer Davis Whipple & Martha below) d. Aug. 29, 1832 age 4 yrs.
  • Asa F. White (son of Ebenezer and Mindwell Whipple below) d. Apr. 29, 1843 age 32 yrs.
