Prior to her marriage, Rena Whipple had given birth to a son, Edward Lawrence Whipple, born June 7, 1928 in Westminster, Windham, Vermont. The birth was recorded in Westminster Windham County Vermont, informant Dr. Bowen of Bellows Falls VT, and recorded that Rena was a resident of Gilsum, NH and age 18.Edward L. Whipple was raised by his Whipple grandparents and appeared in the 1930 census with them in Gilsum NH at age 1. His grandfather died when he was 4 yrs of age. In the 1940 census in Gilsum, NH, Edward was 11 yrs of age and born in VT. His widowed grandmother, Minnie E. Whipple age 64, and Edward were lodging together in the household of Lewis Durant.
Edward L. Whipple married Valencia Mae Guerin, daughter of Fred and Rose (Benjamin) Guerin on April 17, 1948 (Annual Town Report). Their marriage intention was filed April 8,1948 with permission granted by the Court on 09 April 1948 at Gilsum, NH. Both parties were 19 years of age and Edward was a shop worker. They were married by Rev. Theodore B. Hadley, Congregational Minister. The marriage ended in divorce.
