!SOURCE: Email from Joanne Vetter (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 29 Apr 2023. Gives name Edward Roy Whipple. "He served three years in the Philippines with Company B of the 12th US Infantry and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal." Edward was working as a station manager for the Santa Fe Railroad, when he was accidently killed.
"He saw an Indian standing on the platform with a gun in his hand with both barrels cocked. Mr. Whipple went up to him and cautioned him and took hold of the gun. In taking hold of the gun he jarred it so that the hammers fell and both barrels were discharged killing Mr. Whipple instantly. His wife was prostrated with grief. His man friends in this city were shocked when they heard of the accident." --From the New Journal (Mulberry, KS) Friday 10 Oct 1913 Pg 1
