Sterling states: "This stone can not be fully read in 2000, but it is likely it says Cesar was negro servant of Col. Joseph Whipple. Frank Williamson read the stone as eldest son of Col. Joseph Whipple. The dates are from the Williamson transcript." Cesar's head stone is one of 112 in the "Free Ground."
