• Alson A. Whipple, of Lapeer Co., MI enlisted as pvt. on 31 July 1861 at the age of 20. He served with distinguished service in Co. D, 16th Infantry Reg't MI, was wounded at Malvern Hill, VA on 01 July 1862. He was promoted to cpl. before being discharged on 25 October 1862 in Antietam, MD.
• Alson W. Whipple of Saginaw, Michigan enlisted as Sergeant on 12 May 1863 at the age of 22. He served with distinguished service with Co. F., 1st SS Reg't MI, was wounded on 15 August 1864 at Petersburg, VA (Estimated day of wounding) and was mustered out on 28 July 1865 in Delaney House, Washington, DC.
