2005. Cites http://www.geocities.
com/Heartland/Fields/4791/brooklynsouthcem.html (Hale Collection Headstones at
"South Cemetery" at Brooklyn, CT.): "Whipple, Albert G., born May 4, 1799, died
Aug. 24, 1867"
!SOURCE: "Descendants of Joseph Angell," email from Beverly
(email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 30 Sep 2006. Cites/notes the
following:
- "Of Rhode Island."
- "I suspect that Albert may be the son
of one of Zebulon Whipple's sons as they were in Plainfield, CT but certainly
there were other Whipples in the Plainfield and Thompson CT in the Vital
Records of those two towns where Albert and Rebeckah lived. Albert may have
been born in Rhode Island."
- Mass Town Records, Vitals of Thompson, CT.
(marriage, by Rev. Daniel Dow)
- "He was born Apr 20, 1799 in RI, and died Aug
24, 1845 (? see note) in Thompson or Brooklyn, Windham, CT, bur South Cem
Brooklyn, CT."
- In 1800 there was a Jesse Whipple in Killingly CT, Joseph and
Zebulon in Plainfield
- In 1833-39 Albert Whipple had an account at the Dike
Family store for agriculture, products and transportation. (Dike Family Bus
Records, Baker Library Historical Collection - note James Dike came from Dudley
CT to Thompson CT 1740 from his father in law Samuel Narramore and the family
stayed in Thompson for generations, owning a saw mill, woolen mill, and other
industry. In 1850 Thompson was the largest populated town in Windham -later
Pomfret - County in CT.)
- Census Records
- No Albert can be found prior
to 1830 in Plainfield nor in Thompson.
- 1830 Thompson: Albert G. with
one male 10 to 15 and he is 15 to 20, 1 female under 5 (Mary), 2 ages 5 to 10
(Jane and Ellen) and 2 15 to 20 (unknown) and two 20 to 30 so there are others
in the household and the females are too old to be children of
Albert.
- 1840 Thompson, Windham, CT: Albert G. Whipple w one male 5-10
and he is 40-50, 1 female 5 to 10, 1 female 10 to 15 and 1 females 15 to 20 and
Rebeckah is 30 to 40.
Jane Maria would be 18 in 1840 and Ellen would be 15
or 16 with Mary age 14 or 15 so there is another younger child in the household
and an unknown male child. - 1850: Albert and Rebeckah are supposedly
deceased. The only other Whipple in Thompson is Mehitable with Olney and other
children. This would be presumably the widow of Bela Whipple b 1774 Cumberland
RI, son of Stephen and Lucina (Paine). Bela and Mehitable Grant were married
1809 when Mehitable was 29 and he was about 35 so it is possible that Bela was
married previously and could be the father of Albert. Mehitable's first Whipple
child was born 1810.
- Albert E. Whipple ran the tailor shop in
Thompson according to the History of the Village of Thompson from the Windham
Townships histories, perhaps an error in middle initial or perhaps another
generation. He was in business with James Mills (perhaps this a relative of
John Mills who m Lucina Whipple, dau of Jessie of CT who also resided in
Thompson CT at one time). No dates on this reference to Albert E. but appears
to be in the general timeframe of the 1830's.
!SOURCE: "Descendants of Albert G. Whipple," email from N. Combs to Weldon
Whipple, 11 Nov 2013:Census records say that Albert Lester Whipple {145421} was
born in RI (1860) or CT (1870, 1880). If CT, then there is a possibility that
he is the son of Albert G. Whipple {102138}. The notes on this WGW page under
the 1840 census say that there is one male in the household between 5-10.
Albert Lester Whipple {145421} was born about 1831.
In researching Albert
G. Whipple, I found both MA and CT death records for an Albert G. Whipple
giving his DOD as August 24, 1867 in Seekonk, Bristol, MA. He was 68-3-20 at
death, b. May 4, 1799 in Castleton, Rutland, VT, the son of Nancy Whipple who
was b. in North Providence, Providence, RI. Except for the year of death, this
record fits Albert G. Whipple {102138}. In 1860 Albert G. Whipple is 60 yrs.
old, b. VT and living in Seekonk, Bristol, MA w/Fanney Whipple age 51 b. MA
(abt 1809) and presumably his 2nd wife. Fanny P. Whipple, b. Natick, MA 23 Dec
1809 dau. of Samuel and Olive Perry, d. 18 Dec 1887 in Seekonk, Bristol, MA
(src: Massachusetts, Death Records, 1841-1915).
!SOURCE: Email from N. Combs to Weldon Whipple, 30 Jan 2014. Identified
typographical error in Albert's death date. It should read 24 Aug 1867 (instead
of 24 Aug 1845).
