Malcolm Taylor and his wife, Rachel, were among the pioneers of the middle west. They first located at Sauk Center, Minnesota, where they lived for several years until driven out by grasshoppers. They they went to Athol, South Dakota, engaging there for a number of years in the raising of wheat and other grains, as well as cattle and horses. Several hot and dry seasons made progress very slow, so they moved to North Dakota where they established a horse ranch which proved very successful. Later they moved to Brownlee, Saskatchewan, Canada, where they again owned and operated a large ranch, spending the winter months at Long Beach, California.
