The will of Ellen Whipple of the City of New York, dated 26 Feb 1870 is found on familysearch.org in "New York Probate Records, 1629-1871, New York County, Wills, 1871-1872, vol. 206, images 122-124. The will was recorded for probate on 6 May 1872, John Whipple executor. Ellen Whipple is "late of the County of New York deceased" and there are heirs minor, for whom a special guardian was appointed. I did not locate the complete probate papers, just the will with a brief paragraph preceding the will with the info I just provided, and statements by the two witnesses of the will. Briefly the will:
First I give to Maria B. Mills nee Swann the sum of five hundred dollars
2nd I give...to my son John Whipple the sum of money realized from the sale of the Warwick Estate (which was given to me by my late husband) amounting to a little over Seven thousand dollars...
3rd I give...one half of all the remainder...to my said son John Whipple...
4th I give...the other half...to the children of my deceased son James De Wolf to be divided among them equally...
appoint my son John Whipple and my trustee James M. Brown to be the Executors...
26 Feb 1870 Ellen Whipple
