Deceased, for many years, worked for HC Frey and William Dickover in Wilkes-Barre. For several years he made his home in Parsons previous to moving to St. Joseph, Mo., in 1878. A St. Joseph paper says: "James W. Whipple was born in Newport, Pa. on the 29th day of May, 1827, and was a bricklayer and miller by trade. He was a competant and skilled mechanic in both branches, and at one time in his younger days operated one of the largest flour mills in Pennsylvania. He was married in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Dec 2, 1852, to Miss Caroline Santee of that city. Their married life was a long and happy one, the fruits of which were six children, three boys and three girls: William D. Whipple, now in Dallas, Texas; Walter S. Whipple, well known in this city, he being in the mantle and tile business for many years; Robert J. Whipple, well known in railroad circles, having a run as engineer on the old "Wabash" route; Mrs. George (Ida Maria) Phillips of this city, and Misses Lizzie C.
