Combs to Weldon Whipple, 24 Aug 2004, in response to a question about Rice's mother listed as Abigail Hatch, who died in 1817--before Rice was born. Norma writes: "I double-checked my database and the RI Hist. Cemeteries Database, and the dates you have in the Whipple Genweb for the individuals below [Rice A. Miller and Abigail Hatch] are correct as given in the online cemetery listing. However, because of Rice A. Miller's birthdate of 1826, he is in my database as the son of an unnamed mother, his father's second wife. In Rice A. Miller's marriage record (Arnold's VRs), it states that he is the son of Rice Miller. I couldn't find a record in Arnold's VRs of a second marriage for Rice Miller, nor a record there of Abigail's death. It is possible that the RI Hist. Cemeteries Database is in error as to Abigail's DOD--old stones can be hard to read (or perhaps a human made a transcription/entry error). Can you create a second spouse for Rice Miller as the mother of Rice A. Miller? That would account for the physical impossibilities in the dates--for now at least." Norma also notes the following:
