- NOTE: OK, this record has some issues. But it also says his
wife is 'Mable'. I'm thinking A) Transcription issues, and B) I bet 'Mable'
didn't really know her mother-in-law's middle name. At this point, Elizabeth
has been dead for 25 years. She and George got married 03 Nov 1915 so she and
Elizabeth may not have not known each other for very long. According to their
marriage certificate it is a second marriage for both of them as well... To me,
this is at least proof that George Wood's mom's middle name starts with an
'L'.
- Burial: http://
www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=23386883&df=all&
(Elizabeth, George and George McKay are all buried with the same
headstone.)
- Middle name of Elizabeth's and George's son was from
his WWI and WWII draft cards. I honestly think that having the middle name
'McKay' is kind of a dead giveaway of his mom's maiden name.

- 1860
Census (Warwick): 9 year old Elizabeth McKay is living with 41 year old
Alexander McKay who was born in Scotland and 30 year old Grace N McKay who was
born in Scotland. Can't read Alexander's profession. The transcription for
this record claims that Alexander's daughters are also living here: Agnes J (5)
and Mary E (2). Again, these pages are VERY hard to read.
- Now, there
is some remote possibility that there is a monumental coincidence going on
here. On the Elizabeth we know for sure is the right one for us, the RI
marriages clearly show that Alexander and Grace are her parents. On the other
hand, George Wood marrying Elizabeth McKay Whipple? The time frame is right of
course...it is after George Whipple's death as well as the 1880 Census. For
shame that the 1890 Census isn't around! I also wish I had a copy of the RI
Marriages to view. The marital status (if listed) of the bride would give a lot
away. The 'E' for her middle name on that could very easily be a poor
transcription.
- If I am right and Alexander has two wives, then I
believe that Grace and Carrie are Grace N's daughters and Lizzie, Anges,
and Mary are Margaret's daughters. I'll work on this some more. I'm also off to
work on the Youngs.
