Stumbled across your website while doing a search on Julia Lee Whipple. I have her sampler, stitched in 1799 in Providence. SJulia Leeus sampler wrought at nine years of age Providence July 2 1799T. The typed note on the back says:Julia Lee was born in Providence, Rhode Island on December 16, 1789. She was the daughter of William Lee and Abby Kinnicut Lee; they were married in Providence on April 17, 1785. Her siblings were:
- Polly, b. May 3, 1788
- Lydia Cushing b. Jan. 6, 1792; died Mar 2, 1795
- William b. Apr. 19, 1794
Julia married David Whipple on Dec. 10, 1824 at the Beneficent Congregational Church in Providence. She was David Whippleus second wife. She was almost 35 at the time of her marriage, so it seems unlikely that she had children; certainly we have found no record of any. The Whipples were among the first settlers of Rhode Island (hand-written note)
An interesting footnote: a Julia Ann Kinnicut (Julia Leeus motherus maiden name was Kinnicut) made a sampler at Miss Balchus school in Providence sometime around 1820.
