I found a notice of the marriage of Asa Whipple to Amy Leffingwell on 1 Nov 1797. This was picked up by at least four newspapers of the region. This record is NOT in the VR of Norwich or any other community or church apparently--which is difficult but I understand that records from this period (post Revoluton) seem to be incomplete--due to the nature of the population perhaps abandoning traditional recording of such informtion (perhaps even neglecting the baptism of children?).
