W. W. TICE was born June 5, 1834, in Washington County, N.Y. He is a son of Abraham {17209} and Martha (Whipple - 17208) Tice, also natives of New York. His grandfather, John Tice {father of Abraham Tice}, was of German origin and served in the Revolutionary war. W.W. Tice was reared on his father's farm and attended the schools of the neighborhood. At fourteen he attended the high school at Brockport, after which he entered the Union College at Schenectady and graduated in 1855. He then came to Mayfield and taught school about three years. He then took up the study of law under the preceptorship of R.L. Mayes and was admitted to the bar in 1859, since which time he has been actively engaged in his profession. In May, 1865, he was elected commonwealth's attorney; ths position he honorably held for over three years. Mr. Tice was married in 1871 to Mrs. Harriet Johnson of Graves County. He is a member of the old school Presbyterian Church, and of the Masonic fraternity.
