Re: Mabel G. "Ranger": I am now 99.99% sure that I have found the family member I was seeking for my husband's ancestry! ... I am sure she is the Mabel Gilman born in Leelanau county Michigan on June 23, 1886 to Charles and Amelia Mosier Gilman. In the 1910 Census Mabel is shown as a "ward" of the Rangers and Mary J. Indicates that she has not given birth to any children. In a later email (received the same day), Bobbie adds:
On Wednesday I asked Aunt Betty what she knew of her Aunt Mabel Gilman (a half-sister of her mother Ella Frances). She & Uncle Quinn had met Mabel and knew that she was married to a guy named Lucius Whipple! And they were pretty sure he was with a University out in New England somewhere. So on Friday I started Googling for Lucius Whipple. I also had verified the birth of Mabel Gilman (23 Jun 1886) while I was in Leelanau County on Thursday. So on Friday I checked the SSDI for a Mabel Whipple born on 23 Jun 1886 and found her with a death date of 15 Jun 1973 in Providence county RI. I am attaching my page of notes so you can see the path I've followed. Now let me throw the Maine connection in here - I just got an e-mail from Dad Wooll (ACW) which I will forward because his info is coming straight from his diary. Amelia's first husband was Charles Gilman who had been born in Anson, Maine. They were married in Leelanau County November 22, 1881 (I verified this on Thursday). Reading Dad's note will tell you this story. After reading his e-mail, I wonder if Mr & Mrs. Ranger were relatives of the first husband, Charles Gilman...
