"Johan Evje, Norwegian composer and teacher. Took teacher's college graduation at Hamar Lærerskole and studied music at the Conservatory of Music in Oslo. For many years he was organist and headmaster in Østre Aker. As a composer did Evje his mark through some major vocal works, including Ascension (Oratorio, 1933), the New Jerusalem (cantata for Østre Aker Church anniversary in 1935) and the oratorio The Nativity (1937) and Christmas Oratorio. Amongst other compositions include Quo vadis, fugue for organ and orchestra (Oslo 1933), Yet go dance siege oak for soprano and orchestra, one piano concerto, symphony, choral pieces and songs." Source: Major Norwegian encyclopaedia.Johan served in Vestre Aker Church as an organist, was a conductor and was otherwise concerned with the social conditions in town. He was also a member of Aker district council. He "discovered" his pupil, Trygve Lie, who later became Secretary General of the UN, and helped him with education. He has a street named after him in Bryn, Oslo.
