Notes

[Augustus William Whipple] married first, 9 Aug 1838 in Saint John, Saint John Co., New Brunswick, Margaret Deveber. She was the only daughter of W.E.N. Deveber, Esq. of Saint John. The 18 Aug 1838 edition of the New Brunswick Courier reported: "m. Thursday eve., 9 th inst., by Rev. Dr. Gray, Augustus W. Whipple, Esq. / Margaret Deveber only d/o W.E.N. Deveber, Esq. of this city. St. John Co." She died 6 May 1839, age 20. The 18 Aug 1838 [i.e. 18 May 1839?] edition of the New Brunswick Courier reported: "d. 9 o'clock, Monday morn., 6 th inst., Margaret Whipple w/o A.W. Whipple, Esq. and d/o W.E.N. Deveber, Esq., age 20, left husband."
