!SOURCE: Email from N. Combs to the Whipple Website, 13 Jun 2003. Norma writes: "I think Rufus Smith {10287} is the son of Richard Smith {19784} and Lydia Clarke {19785}. Richard Smith is the son of Christopher Smith, Jr. {28299 b. 1697 Providence, Providence, RI d. January 27, 1781 Scituate, Providence, RI} and Amity Harris {b. October 10, 1697 Providence, Providence, RI d. May 05, 1769 Scituate, Providence, RI}. Amity Harris is the daughter of Richard Harris {24703} and Elizabeth King {24703}. Here's why I think so: Rufus and Nancy (Whipple) Smith have children named Richard, Lydia C., and Amity. Their other children are apparently named for Nancy's family--Stephen, Mary, and Ziba. The location (Scituate, RI) and ages of the individuals are appropriate as well."
