RICHARD L. BABCOCK, 66 of Chelsa Trailer Park, Sayre died unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001 at the Robert Packer Hospital. He was born Aug. 31, 1934 in Litchfield, the son of Allie and Millie Whipple Babcock. He served in the Korean War in the 48th Infantry from 1954 to 1957. The Charles Jones Construction Co. Employed him as a mason for over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and his grandchildren. He was a great father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. He also was a NASCAR fan. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers Rodney, Louis, Allie, Ralph, Robert and Donald Babcock and a sister, Hazel. He was a member of the American Legion Betowski-VanDeMark Post No. 492 of Waverly, N.Y., the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 1492 of Waverly, N.Y., the Skiff-bower Post No. 1536 VFW of Sayre and the American Legion Fort Sullivan Post No. 246 of Athens. He was a former member of the Sayre B.P.O.E. No. 1148. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Genevieve at home; his previous wife, Jean Babcock of Waverly, N.Y.; his children and their spouses, Sandra and Randy Talada of Sayre, Richard and Monica Babcock of Waverly, N.Y., Ronald and Patty Babcock of Sayre, Cindy and Jim Bobenchik of Northport, Fla., Pamela Carpenter of Barton, N.Y., Tammy and Peter Ringenary of New Jersey, Joseph and Becky Carnrike of Lockwood, N.Y., Victor and Tammy Carnrike of Barton, N.Y., Brian and Joyce Newman of Milan, Jay Carnrike of Sayre, Brian and Jacquelin Wolcott of Waverly, N.Y., Glen and Lisa Carnrike of Sayre and Alan and Melissa Carnrike of Sayre; 30 grandchildren, including his special granddaughters, Jaci Wolcott and Toshia Babcock; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Babcock of Elmira, N.Y. And four sisters, Annabel Slater of Florida, Helen Alfero of Walnut, Calif., Pauline Grissom of Salton Sea Beach, Calif. And Viola Kitchen of Sayre, and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call Monday from 10 a.m. To 1 p.m. At the Lowery Funeral Home, 225 S. Main St., Athens. Funeral services will follow there at 1 p.m. With the Rev. Wesley Nichols, pastor of the Church on the Hill of Milan officiating. Burial will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens.
