Internet trees have Mahala as daughter of James and Milla Walker and married first to Nathaniel Gardiner then to Daniel Whipple. I believe she was their granddaughter, instead the daughter of William and Hester Walker. In 1850 James and Milla (Magdellen) Walker were residing with James and Hester. With them was Mahala Walker, daughter of William, age 22, born between 1827-1828 in Ohio, and as yet unmarried. (I believe this is the Mahala who married Daniel Whipple in 1852.) Next door was Nathaniel Gardiner with a wife (Mahala) born about 1814 in Virginia. I believe she was the Mahala Walker daughter of James and Milla. That Mahala was married prior to Daniel as indicated on the internet trees is not correct as the two Mahala's appear in the same census together. Mahala Whipple was age 75, 9 mos and 13 days on her death certificate so b about 1827.
