Albert Augustus Whipple was a true "49er", departing for California aboard the Bark (Barque) Rio, from Providence RI, in October 1849. ("Argonauts of California", p. 498) Albert was 21 years old and never returned to Rhode Island. Census (4) and Voters Registers (4) all indicate he was born in Rhode Island. In 1862, Albert Whipple was elected a trustee of the city of Sonora CA.In 40 years of genealogical research, I have found no documents that name Albertus parents. He did name his oldest daughter Susan, the same name as his presumed mother.Albert Augustus Whipple certainly fits the missing "Albert" in Ephraim (1800-1875) and Susan Farnum Whippleus family.
My own father was also designated as "died young" in one of my family histories, after he left Texas for California during the Dust Bowl years. They were surprised to learn he had a wife and 3 daughters. He did "die young," age 27, of polio.
