!OCCUPATION: In 1655, succeeded the Reverend John Cotton as minister of the First Church, Boston.

!IDENTITY: H.B. Whipple indicates that John Norton was the father of Bonus Norton. Blaine Whipple, on the other hand--in his History and Genealogy of "Elder" John Whipple of Ipswich, Massachusetts (Victoria, B.C.: Trafford, 2004), p. G21-G22--indicates that John was instead Bonus' uncle, the brother of Bonus Norton's father William.
