Notes

!SOURCE: Email from N. Combs to Weldon Whipple, 23 May 2003. Cites post to the RootsWeb Whipple list (20 Feb 2003):
"Seeking the parentage of Dexter Whipple born. Dec. 27, 1784 Rhode Island. Dexter died Sept 18, 1858 Moreau, Saratoga New York and is buried at Big Bend Cemetery (Trumbull) Moreau, New York. He was married1 Rebecca Danforth Sept. 11, 1803 in Queensbury, Washington/Warren Co. New York. Married2 Nancy Wilcox abt 1816 Saratoga/Warren Co. New York.

Dexter was a lumberman by trade, he would purchase large tracts of land and clear it of all lumber, then float it down the Hudson River. According to court records, on one occasion he forgot to purchase the land, and this did upset the legal owner. (I think he personally chopped down most of the trees in Washington/Warren Co.) About 1816 Dexter and his new wife settled in Moreau, where he purchased more land and took a second job as a farmer. --Dorothy (email hidden)"

Norma asks: "The names of Dexter's wives as given by Dorothy don't match the name in the census record. Is Betsey a third wife? She is the right age to be Seth's mother."

Dexter Whipple and Elisha Danford, brothers-in-law, came there about 1800, or 1802, from Connecticut."
