"Whipple Harvey bur. Hutchings Cem., Greenfield, Saratoga, NY age 63y {no DOB or DOB, but if born 1832 as given below, then DOD prob. 1895}

Co. E, 77th NY Volunteers. Stone broken at date of death. Vet. of war of 1861-65. Per Sylvester's History of Saratoga County he enlisted February 16 1862 as private Co. E 77th NY Volunteer Infantry. Discharged for disability on May 23 1863. In 1878 lived in Greenfield. The 1865 Greenfield Town Civil War records mostly agree and add that he was born November 14 1832 in Greenfield son of Calvin D. and Amy M. Town Whipple. He was a farmer who enlisted at Saratoga Springs. Post-war address Porters Corners.

Whipple, Harvey L. {79353}, age 23, born Saratoga Co., NY, a laborer, living with, and grandson of, Amos Town, age 80, born MA {abt 1775}, farmer, resident of Saratoga Co. 56 yrs., and his wife Rhoda, age 73, born RI {abt 1782}, resident of Saratoga Co. 63 yrs. I think we can safely say that Amos and Rhoda Town are the parents of Amy Town {10416}.

• Harvey's application for a military pension, 14 Mar 1864 in Saratoga County, N.Y., on account of "a disease of his eyes so that his eyesight became greatly impaired." (One of the witnesses was George Whipple.)
• General Affidavit in Town of Greenfield, Saratoga County, New York, in which Allen F. Davis, town clerk, declares that Harvey Whipple and Caroline Hayes of the Town of Greenfield in the County of Saratoga, New York, were married 5 Apr 1866 in Greenfield. (The affidavit relates to a military pension claim by Caroline.)
• Declaration for Widow's Pension, Act of June 27, 1890, State of New York, County of Saratoga, 21 Jun 1893, which states that Caroline appeared to report the death of her husband Harvy L. Whipple on 3 Apr 1893. They were married 8 Apr 1867.
• Certificate from the United States Pension Agency, Buffalo, N.Y., stating that pension payments for Harvey L. Whipple to his widow Caroline Whipple were dropped because of her death, which occurred on 29 Sep 1901.
• Death certificate of Harvey Leroy Whipple. (Gives father's name Calvin L. Whitford, Greenfield, NY, mother Eliza Town, Greenfield, N.Y.
